An adaptation of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s ‘The Lady of the Sea’, Mareechika was designed and directed by Ila Arun and co-directed by K.K. Raina. Against an illustrated phad (painted cloth roll), a bhopa and bhopi (male and female narrators) told the tale in Marwari language, using folk traditions and transporting the audience to Rajasthan through native dances and music. The large cast of 31 persons included Ila Arun as bhopi, and her daughter Ishita Arun in the lead role.
